Easy Notes Support

Last updated: 27 October 2026

Easy Notes is a simple notepad for your Mac: plain text only, encrypted on your Mac. This page answers the questions that come up most.

Getting started

Easy Notes opens to a new note, ready to type. The first line becomes the note's title, and every change is saved as you type. Writing needs a plan: try the yearly plan free for 7 days, or choose monthly or Lifetime.

Plans and prices

Prices are shown in US dollars; the App Store shows the price for your country. To see or change your plan, choose Easy Notes → Plans… from the menu bar. All three plans can be shared with your Family Sharing group.

Cancelling

In the plans window, choose Manage Subscription, or open the App Store, click your name, click your name again, then Subscriptions. To avoid being charged after the free trial, cancel at least 24 hours before it ends. After you cancel, writing stays on while Apple shows your plan as active, normally until the end of the trial or the period you've paid for. Apple's steps: https://support.apple.com/en-us/118428

Refunds

Purchases are made through Apple, and Apple handles refunds: https://reportaproblem.apple.com

Moving to Lifetime

Lifetime is a separate, one-time purchase. If you buy it while a yearly or monthly plan is set to renew, Easy Notes reminds you to cancel the subscription, so you aren't charged again.

Restoring a purchase

On another Mac signed in to the App Store with the same Apple Account, your plan usually appears by itself. If it doesn't, choose Easy Notes → Plans… → Restore Purchases.

Without a plan

Easy Notes always opens. Without a plan you can still open, read, search, copy and export your notes, and delete or recover them. Typing, pasting, cutting, undo and redo, new folders, renaming and moving need a plan.

Your notes stay on this Mac

Easy Notes keeps your notes on this Mac only. They aren't synced to iCloud or your other devices, and they're left out of Time Machine backups. Each note's key is kept in this Mac's keychain and doesn't move to another Mac, so a copy of the notes file can't be read anywhere else. Before you move to a new Mac, export the notes you want to keep, because the new Mac can't open them. To export a note, open it and choose File → Export as Text File…. The exported file is ordinary text and isn't encrypted.

Deleted notes

Deleted notes go to Recently Deleted and wait 30 days before they're deleted for good (or the next time Easy Notes opens, if it's closed then). To bring a note back, choose Recover, or drag it onto a folder. Delete Now and Delete All remove notes for good at once: the note's key is destroyed, so no one can recover it.

Folders, search and windows

Why is spelling correction off?

Easy Notes keeps your text exactly as you type it, so spelling correction, text replacement and smart quotes are off. Writing Tools, Services and Look Up are off too, so your text isn't passed to other tools.
