Privacy Policy for Easy Notes

This Privacy Policy explains how SUMMERCLOUDE PTE. LTD. ("we", "us" or "the developer") handles information in connection with the Easy Notes macOS app ("the App").

The short version: the App collects no data. Your notes are encrypted and stay on your Mac. The App makes no network connections, we run no server, and nothing you write ever reaches us.

What we collect

Nothing. The App has no accounts, no sign-in, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting of its own and no tracking of any kind. The App never sends us your notes, folder names, name, email address, device identifiers or usage information. We share no data with any third party.

Your notes

Your notes are stored on your Mac, in the App's own folder (~/Library/Containers/com.summercloude.plaintexteditor). Each note is encrypted with its own key, using Apple's CryptoKit (AES-GCM). Folder names, and which note is in which folder, are encrypted too. The keys are kept in your Mac's keychain, can be read only by the App, and stay on this Mac: they are never synced to iCloud or to your other devices. The notes file is left out of Time Machine backups. Other apps on your Mac, including AI tools, that read the App's files see only scrambled text, never your notes or folder names. Dates, such as when each note was created, changed or deleted, how many notes and folders there are, and each note's size, are not encrypted.

While you use the App

While the App is open, your notes and folder names are unlocked in its memory, so it can show and search them. Undo history is kept in memory only, and is dropped 24 hours after a note's last change or when you quit; it is never written to disk. Spelling correction, text replacement, Writing Tools, Services and Look Up are switched off in the App's typing boxes, so your text isn't passed to those features. The App never writes note text, titles or folder names to the system log, to error messages or to any report. The only other things it keeps are your layout choice, window and column sizes, and the last folder you exported to; none of these holds note text. The one exception is Apple's own save dialog for File → Export as Text File…, which shows the note's title as the suggested file name and works as it does in every app.

When your text leaves the App

Only when you choose:

• Copy or Cut puts text on your Mac's clipboard. If Handoff is on and your other Apple devices are nearby and signed in to the same Apple Account, Universal Clipboard can also make it available on them.
• Dragging selected text out of a note gives it to the place you drop it.
• File → Export as Text File… saves a copy where you choose. That file is ordinary text, not encrypted, and isn't removed when you delete the note.

The App never sends your text anywhere by itself.

Deleting notes

A deleted note goes to Recently Deleted for 30 days, then is deleted for good (or the next time the App opens, if it's closed then). Delete Now and Delete All delete notes for good at once. A note with no text is simply removed. Deleting for good destroys the note's key, confirms it is gone, then removes the encrypted note, so no leftover copy can be read.

Purchases

Plans are bought through the App Store and handled by Apple under Apple's privacy policy. Apple tells the App which plan you have, when it renews or ends, and whether it's a free trial, shared through Family Sharing or waiting on a payment. The App uses this only on your Mac and sends it nowhere. We never receive your name, Apple Account or payment details.

Crash reports from Apple

If you have turned on Share with app developers in macOS, Apple may send us crash reports and usage statistics that don't identify you, as it does for every app. We use them only to find and fix problems in the App. You can change this in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.

No network activity

The App makes no network connections. It is distributed sandboxed through the Mac App Store without the network permission, so macOS itself prevents it from reaching the internet. Purchases are carried out by the App Store on your Mac. Links in the Help menu and the plans window open in your browser; visits to this website are covered by our website privacy policy.

If you email us

If you email us, we receive your email address and what you write, and use them only to reply to you. We keep them only as long as we need to help you, and never share them. To have your emails deleted, ask us at [email protected].

Children's privacy

The App collects no data from anyone, including children.

Data retention and deletion

The App gives us no data about you, so there is nothing for us to keep or delete, apart from any emails you send us (see above). Your notes stay on your Mac until you delete them, as described above.

Your rights

Privacy laws such as the GDPR and Singapore's PDPA give you rights to access, correct and delete personal data held about you. The App gives us no personal data, so the only personal data we may hold is an email you sent us. To access, correct or delete it, or to ask anything about your data, contact us.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new "last updated" date. If a future version of the App ever collects or transmits anything, this policy will say so plainly before that version is released.
